La Gaumaise: cross-border cycling escape through heritage and rolling hills

This characterful cycling loop takes you to the borders of Belgian and French Lorraine, along peaceful roads winding through hills and valleys. The 48-kilometre route reveals unspoiled countryside where traditional architecture punctuates the landscape with beautiful Gaume farmhouses and remarkable buildings.

Allow around 9 hours to fully enjoy this cycling day, including breaks and discoveries. The intermediate-level route requires good fitness to tackle the region's typical terrain. You'll pass through villages with strong rural character and discover viewpoints embracing the rolling horizon.

Bring plenty of water and some snacks: stretches between villages can be long. Spring and autumn offer ideal light for admiring the panoramas, while summer guarantees fine days for cycling in the open air. A mountain bike or gravel bike will be more comfortable on certain sections.
