Summer still lingers over our hills, and the closing days of August hold a few delightful moments for those staying in the Gaume. Between heritage, music and fresh air, here is our selection of outings to savour in the Arlon, Virton and Belgian Ardennes region.
Arlon, at a gentle pace and behind grand doors
Those who love to keep moving will enjoy the Arlonaises de l'été in Toernich on Tuesday 25 August, a friendly walk that, in its eighth edition, invites a different village each week to open up its paths. The following day, Wednesday 26 August, heritage takes centre stage with a flash visit of Arlon's railway station: thirty minutes with Jean-Luc Bouillon to see this landmark in a whole new light.
And if you long to venture further, the Estivales "Arlon, a city that opens up… door after door" on Saturday 29 August will lead you across the town's threshold to reveal its secrets.
Virton sets its gardens to music
On Saturday 29 August, the Parc Foncin in Virton hosts the third edition of Les Jardins, a mellow evening blending concerts, a DJ set and light refreshments. The perfect spot to stretch out the day among friends, glass in hand, beneath the leafy canopy.
Gourmet walks in the Ardennes
Finally, curious ramblers will set off for Bastogne and the Randonailles GTA on Thursday 27 August: three guided walks devised by the Musée de la Grande Ardenne, each ending on a welcome gourmet note.
