October in Gaume: a Week for Wandering, Listening, Dancing

8 October 2026

The Gaume has slipped into its most beautiful autumn month. The beeches are turning copper, the terraces are emptying, and the villages are remembering how to throw a party. Here's what genuinely earns a night away from your cottage.

A cello in Bertrix, a lecture in Virton

The Centre culturel de Bertrix hosts Hayoung Choi tonight — a South-Korean cellist and First Prize laureate. Forty minutes of bow against string in a hall quiet enough to hear a leaf drop. At the same hour, the Musée gaumais plays host to Olivier Pestiaux's talk What if Nature Had Rights — vertiginous, and uncannily close to our own wooded hills.

Ethe en f'Ethe: four days of village life

From Friday 9 to Monday 12 October, Ethe en f'Ethe turns the village into an open-air stage: a giant omelette, an eighties-to-noughties dance, pétanque tournaments, a Polypockets gig. You show up in slippers, you leave muddy and full-hearted.

Oktoberfest in Rochehaut, mechanical bulls around Bouillon

For lighter fare, the Brasserie de Rochehaut brings back its Bavarian-style Oktoberfest from 9 October — local ale, pretzels, live brass. And for the thrill-seekers, a Bullriding spectacle rocks the weekend: dust, adrenaline, guaranteed laughter.

After the party

A glass of sparkling wine in hand, the drive home cuts through a Gaume dozing beneath the beeches. Everything settles there. Enjoy the week — and the outings.
