Gaume in October 2026: Five Outings That Perfume the Belgian Autumn

Autumn settles gently over the Gaume's rolling hills. Leaves turn russet, mist rises from the valleys, and Belgian Luxembourg drapes itself in colours that only October can paint. This weekend of the 17th and 18th, the region has prepared a handful of outings perfectly shaped for travellers seeking warmth and wonder.

When Halloween knocks at the door

On Saturday 16 October, the Gaume rolls out its red carpet for young and old. The Halloween Walk invites children from 6 p.m. for a free, lantern-lit stroll at dusk. Right after, the Cornebidouille Walk follows the footsteps of that gloriously irreverent witch (€2 per child, departures from 5.30 p.m.). Two delightful family interludes.

Autumn cupped in your palm

On Sunday 17 October, meet at the Izel washhouse for a Guided Mushroom Foraging Walk. Beneath the Gaume forest canopy, an expert will teach you to tell a porcini from a bolete, before a steaming bowl of mushroom soup is served. Booking essential.

A weekend of play and performance

The Festival du jeu d'Arlon, celebrating its 31st edition, transforms the ancient town into a vast playground. Free, open to every age — you'll leave grinning like a child. Theatre lovers, meanwhile, should push open the doors of Salle Antarctique in Gomery for Oscar, a sparkling comedy by the Les Incontournables troupe.

And if, come evening, you long for the stillness of a stone cottage deep in the Gaume countryside — that is where, between the Semois river and the beech woods, autumn truly finds its meaning.
