Week-end d'octobre en Gaume : champignons, Halloween et grands rendez-vous

A Gaume weekend in October: when the woods turn gold and the villages come alive

The Gaume in October means low light skimming across meadows, damp earth under sweet chestnut trees, and that rare feeling of the world pressing pause so you can actually look up. This weekend of 17 October, Belgium's Luxembourg Province is handing you the pause button.

Find your way — and the right mushrooms

The guided mushroom walk in Izel departs at 8.30 from the village washhouse. Seven euros, a bowl of mushroom soup on arrival, and above all that singular pleasure of walking through old Gaume woodland with someone who can read the soil beneath your boots. Advance booking with the Izel tourist office required.

Halloween the way villages still do it

Halloween in Chêne-al'Pierre is what cities have forgotten how to stage: a candy hunt threading between cottages, a spooky walk that smells of fallen leaves and tallow candles. Departures between 6 and 7 pm. The children will believe it again — one more year.

Eleven kilometres, borrowed pace

The Marche des Galopins sets off from the church at 2 pm. Eleven kilometres, group walk, free, no registration. No stopwatch, no personal best — just the road and the rhythm of someone else's stride. Sometimes that is precisely what a few days in the countryside is for.

Weave an autumn you can take home

In Bleid, the autumn wreath workshop opens its doors at 1 pm. Dried fruits, hazel rods, last berries — a whole afternoon becomes a small object you nail above the door, still fragrant with the season months later.

The event that defines the town

And then there is the 31st edition of the Arlon Board Games Festival. Tables, dice, laughter, games stretching into the small hours. An event that says everything about this corner of Belgium: here, we are in no hurry.

These two days are a small taste of what the Gaume keeps in store for those who decide to linger a little longer.
