Gaume in Autumn: Four Ways to Make the Most of a Saturday

A day that moves from dewy forest floors to laughter around game tables, from folk fiddle to the last strum of a guitar. Here is our curated list.

The Gaume Mushroom Hunt

At mid-October, the woods of southern Luxembourg hide their finest treasures. A guided wild-mushroom walk departs from Izel's old washhouse at 8.30 a.m., promising a morning of quiet discovery. Seven euros, and — the real reason to go — a steaming bowl of wild-mushroom velouté at the finish. Few pleasures rival returning to your cottage with warm hands and a full basket of stories.

Arlon Plays Its Thirty-First Round

The Festival du jeu d'Arlon, 31st edition turns this ancient town into a sprawling board-game playground. Co-operative games, dice, strategy marathons — three decades of loyal players speak for themselves. Perfect family material, barely a drive from our front doors.

A Village Dance in Cens

The 4 Vents de Cens keep tradition alive with their annual Oberbayern evening. Live folk band, dancing into the small hours, a whole village swept up in joy. This is the Gaume we love: stubbornly warm, unpretentiously celebratory.

Stotzem in Bouillon

Cap the day with music. Jaques Stotzem, the Flemish fingerstyle guitarist with a devoted international following, plays at La Halle du Bouillon Blanc. An evening of suspended breath, strings, and silence.

After foraging, gaming, dancing, and listening, there is nothing quite like the crackle of a log fire and the deep hush of a Gaume valley at night. Our gîtes stay open for anyone who wants to stretch the weekend just a little longer.
