Gaume en octobre 2026 : quatre sorties pour prolonger l'automne belge

October 2026 in the Gaume: Four Autumn Outings from Arlon to Virton

Autumn in the Gaume has a particular sweetness — golden late afternoons, evenings that settle early. The good news: this corner of southern Belgium is far from sleepy. Here are four outings worth stepping out for, coat buttoned high.

Two Centuries of Mining in a Single Evening

This 21 October, the Musée gaumais in Virton hosts Rudolf Noben for a talk on the evolution of mining techniques. Extraction methods, engineering feats, working-class memory: a narrative that gives weight to the slag heaps still dotted between Virton and Torgny. Doors open at 7 p.m., free entry.

Mon Art à Nous: A Free Afternoon of Making Things

No plans for the afternoon? The Espace Florenville welcomes everyone — children and adults alike — to open art workshops from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the very same day. No registration, no gatekeeping, just the simple pleasure of making something with your hands.

Freux Village: A Banquet in the Heart of the Ardennes Forest

The weekend festivities in Freux kick off on 23 October with the Grand Banquet à la bonne freux'quette, set against the Forêt de Saint-Hubert. Live music, generous plates, the buzz of a village throwing its best party: this is Ardennes life no guidebook can quite capture.

The Forest of Lost Souls, Saint-Mard

To close the weekend, the Comité des Fêtes de Saint-Mard stages a nocturnal bus-and-foot trail through a haunted forest on 23 and 24 October. Departures from the kiosk from 7 p.m. onward. Chills assured — and a Gaume sunset thrown in for good measure.

If these outings stir an appetite for more, the hearth at Gîtes-Gaume stays lit and the valley keeps its hush — for as long as you need it.
