October in the Gaume Region: 5 Cultural and Festive Outings Around Arlon and Virton
Chills, music and a proper Walloon banquet: our October 2026 picks for turning a weekend in Belgium's Gaume region into a story you'll tell for years.

October in the Gaume: Five Events That Make Your Stay Unforgettable
There are weekends that simply become part of your memory. Late October 2026 brings a rare mix of thrills, warmth and local flavour to the Gaume and its neighbouring valleys. Here is what we think no guest should miss.
When a museum turns into a puzzle
On 23 October, the Nuit au Musée Baillet-Latour transforms the Musée Gaumais into a life-sized escape room. From 6.30 pm, explorers aged 12 and above decipher archaeological clues and local legends to help one Jehan de Strainchamp. A perfect family evening, minutes from your cottage.
A Halloween worth braving
Nights draw in early this late, and La forêt des âmes perdues — Saint-Mard's annual fright-fest — is the region's best excuse to step into the dark. Buses leave the bandstand between 7 and 11 pm; tickets are 5 euros. Bring your courage.
A voice that warms up Ethe
At Ethe's P'tit Théâtre, the musical show La musique, ma mère – Etienne S plays at 8 pm. An intimate, soulful evening set between two valleys.
A long table under the forest edge
Also on the 23rd, the grand banquet "A la bonne freux'quette" in Freux lays out a Walloon feast along the border of the Forêt de Saint-Hubert. Long tables, shared laughter, home-cooked plates: the real luxury.
Saturday morning treasure hunting in Arlon
To close the loop, Le temps des trésors fills Arlon's streets with antique stalls and artisan makers on 24 October. A slow browse through faded postcards and rough-fired pots — the kind of finds you carry home to your cottage with a quiet smile.
The roads are short, the autumn is gentle. All you need is a choice.
